Team Sandy Hook Promise
Donation protected
Hello, Life Savers,
I’m excited to be 1 of 5 runners selected nationwide to join Team Sandy Hook Promise in their inaugural run at this year’s United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on March 17, 2024! I am humbled and honored to represent such an amazing organization and look forward to returning to my home state of New York to run in one of the most incredible cities in the world.
Why Support Sandy Hook Promise
Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is focused on taking “meaningful actions in schools, homes, and communities to prevent gun violence and stop the tragic loss of life.” Through their programs Know the Signs, Say Something, and Start With Hello, SHP gives students and school staff the training and resources needed “to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be…at risk of hurting themselves or others.” SHP also focuses on youth suicide awareness and mental health programs through actions such as lobbying for reform, creating social-emotional curriculum, and develop anonymous violence reporting platforms. To date, SHP’s impact includes training 21M students and staff in the Know the Signs program, preventing 233 acts of violence with a weapon, saving 593 lives through crisis interventions, averting 16 acts of school violence, and impacting gun and mental health legislation and reform.
How You Can Help
As an elementary school administrator in Volusia County, I cannot stress enough the importance of learning and doing all we can to prevent school violence. Though school staff and students regularly practice emergency drills, as our communities and world change so does the makeup of those who choose to bring harm to our children and communities. Please join me in helping Sandy Hook Promise continue to make a difference in violence prevention. Your donation WILL make a literal difference in the life of a student and school community.
Best, Sarah Callahan
“Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving, evidence-informed “Know the Signs” prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. Through nonpartisan policy and partnerships, SHP advances gun safety, youth mental health, and violence prevention education at the state and federal levels that protect all children from gun violence in their schools, homes, and communities. SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.
