We are raising money for our good friends, Jack and Trisha Tallman. This year has been tough for everyone. On top of everything going on, Jack and Trisha have been dealing with an extraordinary challenge. Below is the details of what's going on, from Trisha. Let's exceed this goal!
"Jack had been having severe pains in his right shoulder area since the first of the year. When he finally went to get it checked out, they did an MRI and discovered that his spine was severely compressed. He was referred to one of the best orthopedic surgeons and they set the date to have his vertebrae fused - # 5, 6, & 7. They intended to go in from the front. He went into surgery but they found they could not get enough extension from the front. They woke him and set the surgery for a week later, on 9/2 to go in from the back.
The result of that surgery was that he was not able to move his arms and legs. The doctor conferred with several other orthopedics and neurologists. They all agreed with his plan to fuse the #4 and the T1, both being the ones above and below the original surgery. That resulted in some movement in his left leg and both arms, but not in his hands or right leg.
The doctor explained that the vertebrae in that area had grown inward with bone spurs and arthritis to the point that the spinal cord was compressed, or squeezed. When he released that the blood rushed into the spine and essentially put it in shock. He is in the best spinal cord rehab facility in the area and they are working to get him as much movement and control as possible. There is still residual swelling at the surgery site and well as in the spinal cord. With time, that will subside and then we will know how much he can regain. All the doctors have no guess as to how long or the outcome. But they do give us hope that he will regain a lot of what he lost."
Any funds raised will be used to help with medical expenses, construction of accessible areas such as bathroom fixtures, roll-in shower, and living expenses now that Jack has been out of work for and extended period of time. Jack and Trisha have poured into and loved so many people over the years. This is our chance to give back.
