On September 5th, Tanner Lentz and his fiance were celebrating the one year mark until their wedding day. A little over a week later, those plans would be put on hold as Tanner faced major surgery and uncertainty for his future.
Tanner has dealt with bad back pain for awhile now, and eventually it got to the point where he started losing feeling in his toes, then went to his feet and random times it would be his whole leg that would just get numb. The past two weeks he had no feeling in his feet and was having a hard time walking, eventually it got to a point where he couldn’t walk by himself at all.
Tanner was on and off the phone with Redwood Falls doctors and nurses, which didn’t help. They said it was just a disc out that was causing him pain. He told them multiple times I can barely walk, I need something done now. Friday the 13th, his regular doctor called and said he needed to be seen immediately. Tanner went to Redwood Falls clinic to be seen. They said he should not have these symptoms for a disc out. For most people they wouldn’t even notice that the disc is out and have no pain at all. From Redwood Falls they sent us to Mankato ER. Mankato ER did 2 hours and 45 minutes of MRI’s trying to find something. Sure enough, they found a tumor pushing up against T8 on his vertebrae. From Mankato ER we were sent to Rochester ER, where he got more help and direction of what we could do.
Monday Sept. 16th Tanner had 7 1/2 hour surgery to get the tumor out and they got it out! We are still waiting to hear back to see if it’s a benign tumor or not. He’s doing good now, still recovering from the surgery. The physical therapist has been working with him and he will need to do rehab. They are estimating another 3 weeks here at the Mayo Clinic.
We feel truly blessed with the outcome and Tanner's progress so far, but there is still much unknown ahead and bills are adding up, as well as medical expenses, while his family stays in Rochester to continue his care. Please continue to pray for Tanner and his family, and consider donating to help ease the stress as he heals.
