Meet Tasman...Tas has a smile that lights up a room.
His laugh is so infectious that you join in, not having any idea what the joke is about. He loves reading books, listening to music and would have George Ezra's 'Shotgun' on repeat endlessly if allowed! Tas loves going for long walks in his chair, making up jokes about bums and eating ice cream and hot chips.
At 6 months old Tas was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (spastic quadriplegia). Doctors believe that Tasman lost oxygen in the womb some time in the last few days before he was born. That resulted in quite severe damage to his brain.
Tas is 7 now, and still trying to teach his muscles to sit, to reach out and grab things, to shake his head for no, to stand and to walk. All things we're not sure he'll ever be able to do but things he, his family & his team of incredible therapists are constantly working on to give him the best chance of an independent life. Tas interacts through a communication book called a PODD. Having a communication system that allows him to join in conversations and make requests has been a game changer.
Tas uses a wheelchair to get around and together with his twin sisters Arlie & Teila the back seat of the family car is getting a little cramped! As Tas grows and gets heavier transferring him from his wheelchair to his car seat is becoming a big task for his Mum, Regan and Dad, Matthew. Not to mention that his wheelchair then needs to be partially dismantled to fit into the family car.
Tas attends a mainstream school and completely charms everyone he comes into contact with. Alistair is the Sports Coordinator at the school that Tas and his little sisters attend. Recovering from an ACL injury Alistair set a goal to run the Adelaide City to Bay fun run in September and thought it would be a great opportunity to also raise some funds to support Tas and his family.
The aim is to raise enough money to purchase a new family vehicle - a Kia Carnival with modifications that would allow easy access for Tas' wheelchair whilst still allowing him to sit with his sisters.
Help Alistair and Tasman's friends and family raise funds to support this wonderful family and all the opportunities they provide for Tas to live his best life.
