Nothing prepared me for the news. Words continue to fail me. Emotions steer me through the day and night and seem to control me each and every second. I want, so desperately to be able to do something, say something, take away the disease, relieve the pain, make everything okay again. Instead I find myself starting and restarting this post for the umpteenth time.
But the reality is that this post is not about me; it's about a young woman - my sister-in-law, Tracey Hodge, who woke up one morning to get a call that has forever changed her life. She is the mother to Keaton, daughter to Nancy (David) and the never-forgotten Rocky, sister to Corey, Jon, and Melissa, and life partner to Johnny. She's a grand daughter, niece, an aunt, friend, coworker, and neighbor. She's the most capable, most determined woman that I have ever known and a formidable foe to this disease.
Though her strength abounds, this journey will exact a toll on every aspect of her being: physically, emotionally, and mentally. There's simply nothing that escapes the wrath of cancer.
If you pray, pray. If you can hope, hope. If you can help, please help.
- Tedra Hodge

Tracey has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer and she is just beginning her fight. After the initial round of testing over the last couple of weeks, and under the assumption the cancer while very large and aggressive appeared to be contained to her breast tissue, she has been preparing for chemotherapy, radiation, breast removal, and reconstructive surgery.
Monday (10/24) however additional imaging showed concerns in the bone. After another biopsy it has been confirmed the cancer has moved outside her breast and is in at least her hip bone and possibly two other areas that are yet to be biopsied.
METASTATIC BREAST CANCER
While uncurable there are treatments available. The link above goes into more detail of the fight she is facing.
Her journey takes her to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas on Tuesday (11/01) where all tests will be repeated for confirmation and a treatment plan developed.
