Hello, my name is Natalie and here is my Cancer story.
In September, I felt and noticed a lump on the right side of my neck. I scheduled an appointment with my doctor as this lump was starting to cause issues with breathing, swallowing, and talking. My doctor scheduled an ultrasound and ordered a biopsy. I received my biopsy results right before Thanksgiving confirming Hurthle Cell Neoplasm. Because the tumor was 5cm in size, I was immediately scheduled for a partial thyroidectomy on December 10, 2014 removing the right side and the tumor.
We were hoping to save the left side of my thyroid, however my doctor broke the news to me that the Hurthle Cell Carcinoma was 100 percent confirmed and I would need to go back in for surgery on December 16, 2014 to remove the rest of my thyroid.
My first Oncology appointment was on December 19. I learned that my Hurthle Cell Carcinoma is very aggressive and has a very high chance of coming back in the future. It is a very rare type of Thyroid Cancer to begin with, but that it is also very rare in people my age. They also did find a different cancer in my left thyroid so I am thankful this was all caught early. I will begin treatment after I am all healed and get a second opinion from the Mayo Clinic. The doctors will also check my lymph nodes and perform a full body scan to ensure the cancer has not spread.
I am trying to raise money to help cover the costs of the following: my ultrasound, biopsy, two surgeries, hospital expenses, doctor visits, oncology visits, treatments, genetic testing and travel costs to the Mayo Clinic. The money that you donate will help cover all of these expenses along with my out of pocket expenses that my insurance does not cover.
