Hi Everyone!

As you know our wonderful Robyn is fighting a new battle with cancer.  Robyn is adored by many and so many people want to help but are not sure how.  Going forward Robyn and Jeff will be faced with mouting medical bills due to her treatment and unfortunately insurance will not cover all of it.  Any stress we can take off their plate will help them get through this very difficult time.  Any donation made will be greatly appreciated. Robyn's latest caring bridge update is below.  Go team Robyn!

Robyn's caring bridge:
After hearing that we're now in a Stage IV cancer diagnosis, we decided right away that we wanted to seek the best doctors in the country. We quickly made an appointment at MD Anderson. We're so glad we made the decision to come down here. It's been a great experience and so worth it!
We met with the doctors yesterday and they've recommended agressive chemotherapy again. No need for radiation until/unless I have pain in the bone met areas. No surgery would be required. So just chemo - Taxol or Taxotere (likely), Herceptin and Perjeta. Herceptin and Perjeta are drugs for Her 2+ cancer, which mine what I have (same as 2010). They've also recommended removing my ovaries, which I'm ok with. Bone density shots as well. Taxol will be either 4 or 6 cycles, with Herceptin and Perjeta in between. They'll scan me every 3 months to see if 1) the cancer is shrinking, 2) stopped growing or 3) is continuing to grow in spite of the chemo. Scans are imperative to check status. If the cancer is growing, we will switch up the chemo cocktails. They've said if I respond to the taxol well I can take breaks from that and keep on with Herceptin and Perjeta - these 2 drugs will continue indefinitely. I've wrapped my head around the fact that I will quite possibly be in some form of cancer treatment for the rest of my life.
They've said this is really the standard of care with someone in this diagnosis. I'm lucky that this is a fairly 'normal' case of Stage IV cancer. They don't currently have any Her2 clinical trials right now that suit me. So this is the path they'd recommend. So back to Charlotte we go, ready to get started. I have complete faith in my cancer team there. They are wonderful!
I hope to meet with my doctor this week or next to discuss next steps. I need to get a port put back in for chemo and confirm the treatment plan and timeline.
I'm also reading books now to radically change my diet. Heavy fruits and veggies, very low meat (organic only) and taking sugar, dairy and white carbs out of my diet. That will be a HUUUUUGE change for me but I'm ready to start working that path when we get home.
More to come as decisions get finalized. I'll update as I can.
Thanks everyone - your support means the world to us!
Love - Jeff, Robyn, Reed & Paige (and Ellie, our sweet dog!) :)
