Pelham Strong for Rolling Steam

With the ongoing COVID pandemic resulting in the catastrophic impact on our economy, many small business owners are struggling to make ends meet during this unprecedented time in our nation’s history.
One such business owner — our very own “Pelham Spark” — is Lois Teller. Lois is the owner and hands-on personality of Rolling Steam, Pelham’s Metro North coffee shop, and has served us with refreshments and her warm charm for the last 12 years.
As the number of Metro North commuters have dwindled significantly, so too has the foot traffic passing through her coffee shop. Still, Lois has worked tirelessly during these last eight months to make sure her customers have been able to continue to grab their favorite beverage or breakfast snack on their way to work or just passing through the area.
During this particular time of year there’s another reason why we all enjoy hanging out at Rolling Steam, and it’s the heated indoor waiting area. This is where Lois is going to be hit the hardest: the cost of oil used to heat her section of the building comes at a significant financial expense, and one that might just put her out of business permanently; providing heat to her premises is a mandatory requirement from October through April each year and these additional operating costs will put her business at risk.
As a non-native Pelham resident, I have been deeply moved to see how close and supportive of one another we’ve become during this extraordinarily challenging time, and I hope we may continue to find a way to support one of our brightest morning celebrities, and help Lois get through the winter of 2020.
I would urge all of Pelham’s residents and its outliers to please consider showing their support either through this GoFundMe campaign or by simply stopping by and snagging your next espresso or tea from her at the Metro North station on Pelhamwood Avenue (between 5th & Highbrook Avenues).
In the event that we might exceed our goal of $12,222, all additional funds raised will be donated equally to both Pelham and Pelham Manor PD's Police Benevolent Associations.
