Jamie's Recovery
Donation protected
My brother, Jamie Wenzel, was in a tragic hunting accident on Saturday, November 21st. He is a loving husband & father of 4 children and will be unable to work for an unknown amount of time until he recovers from 2nd degree burns to his face and hands and the medical bills are adding up.
Jamie was in his enclosed tree stand when his little propane tank heater went out after running awhile. As it started to get colder, he went to relight the pilot light and there must have been a small leak as it ignited the whole inside of the stand and his coat, hat, and gloves were all on fire and the quick light of the propane made a large ball of fire and he couldn't get out of the stand. He ended up punching the plexi glass window out and crawled out and somehow made it down the bracing to the ground and ran to his car 500 yards away to call 911.
He was transferred to Madison at the UW Burn Center. There were 4 other hunters in the burn unit down there who suffered injuries from small propane heaters as well.
Jamie is home now trying to recover from this tragic accident and is obviously in a lot of pain. I wanted to help and alleviate some of the stress that goes along with such accidents with him having no benefits at work and the obvious bills that never stop.
My family and I would like to thank everyone for their support and most of all your prayers. Jamie really thought it was his time and he said "God helped me escape and to be thankful for everything in my life."
We love Jamie dearly and this Thanksgiving we are so thankful he survived to tell this tragic story and hope it also helps others be more aware and cautious with propane heaters. God is good!!
