Ted Richards - Remembering His Body of Work

Donation protected
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of a beloved family member, friend, cartoonist, and web developer Ted Richards. His contribution to popular culture was broad and varied, spanning over fifty years in both the public and private sectors.

By March 2023, Ted's condition began to rapidly deteriorate after immunotherapy was deemed ineffective for his lung cancer treatment. In April, upon further evaluation by his oncologist, it was determined that he was too weak to accept the next phase of chemotherapy. This, in effect, began his end stage of life -- within ten days of being admitted to the Kaiser San Jose Santa Teresa facility, Ted was no longer with us, passing peacefully during his afternoon nap on Friday, April 21st, 2023.

Many generous contributions (approximately $8,000 USD) have already been made during the time he was alive, which have already helped immensely.

As a family, we are hoping to accept final donations that will go toward shoring up his estate. Any funds received will be allocated for the following:

  • Final housing and shared utility expenses
  • Medical, funeral, and memorial expenses
  • The managing, storing, and archiving of his original art
  • Admin costs

In lieu of making a donation, if you are interested in purchasing Ted Richards' original art or comix, please send an email here.

Thank you above and beyond for your generosity and support. We know many of you have already made a donation, and we thank you in earnest.

If you would like to attend, a memorial event will be held in Ted Richards' honor at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco on Saturday, June 10th, 2023.

Below is the original copy of this campaign:

"Hello, Friends...

A year ago I was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and have been undergoing a successful immunotherapy treatment for almost a year now. But I am severely stressed financially. I also suffer from severe shortness of breath and cannot go shopping or walk very far and cannot do normal consulting work. However, overall considering some side effects from the immunotherapy I am doing well, and my bi-weekly blood test continues to be very good.

  • I need funds for updating my copyrights and assigning rights to my family.
  • Archive my original comic art.
  • Pay for extra support medications and deliveries of food and living supplies.
  • Help my wife and family
  • Monthly expenses such as utilities and household upkeep.

The support I receive will be used for all of the above and contribute significantly to my well-being and peace of mind.

Thank you for your contribution.
