Beschermde donatie
Hi I'm Kahlil and I'm Tehya. We are competive gymnasts at Halifax Alta. Alta Gymnastics is the home of 2012/2016 Olympian Ellie Black & 2016 Olympian hopeful Hugh Smith.
Tehya and I are brother and sister we'd like to share our story with you seeking your help and financial support.
Our campaign is to raise $3,426 to travel and compete at the 2016 Canadian National Gymnastics competition in Edmonton, Alberta May 30 - June 4.
Your funds will help our family cover fees we do not currently have.
- registration fees & Gymnastics Canada surcharge ($165 x 2)
- banquet fees ($25.00 x 2)
- 2 flights with 1 checked bag each ($813.50 x 2)
- ground travel ($27.00 x 2)
- accommodations/meals ($690.00 for Tehya) & (575.00 for Kahlil)
- cost share is ($50.00 x 2)
Total Fees = $3,426.00
Tehya and I have been doing gymnastics since we were little. It's what we LOVE to do! Our goal is to represent Canada on the National Team and compete Internationally.
We are student athletes training 5 nights a week, We travel straight from school everyday and train/workout until 8:30 pm. After gym, we get home around 8:45 ish, shower, eat and do school work. It's difficult to find the motivation to study when your body is exhausted, somehow we manage.
In June, I graduate from grade 12 and start University in the fall. Tehya will be starting grade 10. We often miss socializing with our friends - thank goodness for social media!! Lol.
Training fees for gymnastics are expensive, not to mention the traveling, competition fees, costumes/uniforms every other year and the leather grips... (men should have 2 or 3 pairs for back-up incase they rip)...remember Kahlil Nationals last year?!
It would be AMAZING if we had a sponsorship to help with fees throughout the year,..unfortunately we do not.
We have fabulous parents that always encourage us. They create ways to help support us financially with our fees.
Let us now introduce you... to the 'ROCKS' that hold our family together. My dad Sobaz is an 'Artist', an independent filmmaker who struggles for work here in Halifax. In Halifax the film industry has pretty much died. Dad seeks out contract work with the Nova Scotia Community College and Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in between larger film projects. His passion and calling is mentoring and empowering youth at iMOVe (In My Own Voice) an arts-based not-for-profit that he founded. Unfortunately, with many funding cuts to programs like this...monies are slow flowing.
Our mom Lillian is the other 'ROCK'. I remember my mom ALWAYS working when we were little. When she wasn't working she voluteered at church, school and of course gymnastics. We call her the...Volunteer Queen! In 2013, she fought the biggest battle of her life...she had surgery for breast cancer. Today, we are very blessed and can say our mom is healthy and working in Halifax at the North End Community Health Centre.
To close, please consider helping us get to Edmonton! We would love your support! Well wishes and prayers are needed as well.
Tehya and I will post results and photos of the National competition. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story. Thank you for getting to know us alittle!
Best,
Kahlil and Tehya
