Temi’s Cancer Treatment Fund
TL;DR!
One of the sweetest people I know has been diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. I’ve created this GoFundMe to shed some light on her journey and help ease her financial burden. Together we can help Temi beat cancer!
Hello! My name is Vanessa and I hope you will allow me to share a story with you about Temi Omaghomi, one of my most precious soul sisters.
About two years ago under the medical guidance of her physician, Temi was strongly recommended to undergo a breast reduction surgery due to a myriad of worsening health issues such as back pain, migraines, and numbness in extremities, as well as the failure of physical therapy to mitigate these issues. Her journey to scheduling an operation was nothing short of a struggle with insurance coverage issues. After searching desperately for a surgeon who accepts her insurance for 8 months, Temi’s worsening symptoms and health condition left her with no choice but to settle with one who was not covered by her insurance, despite the looming financial burden. Unfortunately, while the reduction was successful, the aforementioned process and subsequent financial burden turned out to be the beginning of a discovery that would forever alter her life.
Four days after her reduction, Temi was notified of the presence of abnormal cells in the tissue removed from her right breast. With no history of cancer in her family and a few weeks until her 23rd birthday, this discovery was nothing short of alarming. Temi opted to send her samples to two more labs for confirmation, and followed up with mammograms, MRIs, ultrasounds, and chest x-rays, for further investigation. Unfortunately, her worst fear was confirmed by several oncologists. She had Stage 1 Breast Cancer
While Temi is thankful that her breast reduction revealed a life-threatening cancer diagnosis, she is very disappointed because her insurance has stood firm on not covering her previous surgery. Her outstanding medical bill is currently interfering with her ability to fund the co-pays and out-of-pocket costs associated with the laboratory testing, medical appointments, medications, and multiple surgeries needed for her cancer treatment. This does not account for her past and future recovery period, during which she has not and will not be able to work. In addition to the stress of COVID-19 on her and her family, whom she is partially financially responsible for, this chaotic situation has been a recipe for mental and emotional distress.
Temi is a strong-willed, determined, caring, and selfless woman. She lives with her mother and younger brother, both of whom she loves deeply and would do anything for, especially after her father’s passing four years ago. Since graduating from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Temi has worked full-time as a compliance analyst. She is left-handed, loves sushi, does not like bacon, and is absolutely not a morning person. Although she does not like driving, her dream car is a shiny black Chevy Camaro. One of the best things about Temi as a friend in college was having someone selfless and readily available, whether it was as a study partner, a confidant, or someone to send jokes to at 3 AM. As a friend, Temi‘s top quality is the amount of encouragement and support she gives. Inspired by her interactions with the healthcare system and her journey through cancer diagnosis, Temi has developed an interest in genetics and cancer awareness, which she now studies in her free time with the hopes of connecting with and assisting others facing similar struggles.
After a lot of persuasion by me, Temi finally allowed me to make this GoFundMe. Even this is a testament to how she strives to be independent and self-sufficient. Temi is a 23-year-old girl who deserves to live a life free of health complications and unburdened by financial hardship. We fully recognize and understand the difficult times people are in due to the pandemic and suffering economy. Even if you are unable to donate, I would be really grateful if you can share this. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this. I pray that God blesses and protects you.
