Temporary Help for Barry Pressnell's Family
Donation protected
Barry has always been there. Strong, proficient with a set of tools, and a diligent servant of others and the Lord's church. It's part of his nature. When someone needed help or work needed to be done at the church, Barry would just be there. Barry's been a giver and the guy who will just figure out how to get things done and take care of his family. Diligent, dedicated, and selfless are just some of the words that anyone who knows him would use to describe him. It is not surprising that when things get tough he is not going to be one to ask for help. So I'm going to ask for him.
Several years ago Barry had a stroke. He and his wife of 32 years, Jennifer, worked hard on his recovery and for a good bit of time he was able to continue working in his business and, of course, doing good things for others. However, over the last nine months his health has declined, including the need for a gall bladder surgery early this month. Even though he has been one of the hardest working and responsible people I have known, he finally had to shut his business down and apply for disability benefits. I have heard so many people say that the legal system is difficult to navigate and that cases are often rejected immediately. Despite the obvious physical decline, the court inexplicably denied his benefits initially and anecdotal evidence suggests it might take a year before it is approved. Barry and Jennifer are fighting it but they need help immediately to cover living expenses until the payments start coming.
Jennifer has to be home to provide care for Barry but has found some work she can do at home, though with little hours initially, to help cover expenses. They have sold some work items to help cover expenses. As I said, they are ones to find a way through the problem and never want to be a burden on anyone. I'm raising money to help them meet household expenses until the disability comes through. Once that happens not only will their needs be met but they will continue, within their ability, to be servants to others. It's just the way they are. What a blessing that we have an opportunity now to help them. I think of Paul's words in 2 Corinthians 1 where we can comfort others with the comfort with which God has comforted us.
Any little bit can help as it might cover a small bill or combine with other funds to cover bigger expenses. And I know Jennifer will stretch the money as she has been doing so far. Pray for them. Pray for Barry's health and for strength for the family. And if you pray that God will bless them, I hope you'll be able to provide a physical blessing during this difficult and temporary time in their life.
Barry would never ask you do this, but I will. Thanks for considering it.
