Temporary Homeless Shelters
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Josh. I am from Winnipeg, Canada. Growing up my family didn't have a lot. What we did have as kids was the example being set that you help those around you that need it. ALWAYS know that there are others that are worse off than yourself.
Homelessness in our city!!!! We are considered to have one of the highest standards of living in the world. Yet many of our homeless are dying each and every year due to the extreme cold temperatures in the winter months, as well in the summer months due to extreme heat. This doesn't make any sense to me. Something needs to be done about this NOW. We can't just sit back and wait for our government and politicians to try and fix the problem. We need to work together and find solutions for our communities. Lots of great groups out there trying to make a difference but they need more help!
Precious plastic is an amazing group/movement that was founded by Dave Hakkens in 2013. I think their recycling process is awesome and makes perfect sense to me!
If I am able to receive enough funding, my goal is to create small portable shelters for those that need it most. These would be made from 100% recycled plastics. Super easy to assemble. Could be set up temporarily at designated locations when needed. They will be effective in providing some protection year round. I would make them small in size, so each one would fit a single person. This could also help a little with giving personal space/separation during COVID.
To accomplish this I would need to get a shredder machine, an extruder machine, an injection machine, a sheet press, and the molds made. I would also need to find a little heated work space with electricity. I hope to connect with local groups that want to work together as a community effort. Also want to work with the city of Winnipeg (waste management).
-Amount of funds and/or plastic donations will determine how many small portable shelters can be made
-I will reach out and get local groups to help with placement locations of the small portable shelters
-If funding is successful i will make recycled 'good karma' keychains to send out to all donors
-I can easily see the same concept helping with pets/street animals that are freezing to death during our winter months
I have never tried to fund for anything before. No clue what to expect. BUT I promise you that if I reach my goal and can get this started, I will be committed 24/7. And i will keep everyone up to date with how the project is progressing and helping those that need it most.
Any little donation can make a huge difference!!
Thanks, Josh
