I leased my home to a tenant with two young children. Her documentation seemed so impressive to me, that I felt I had found a long-term tenant who would love and care for my home.
Because she had two young boys and work stubs showed she worked 60+ hours weekly, I didn’t want to impose on her so, all correspondence was done by phone and emails.
Instead, the tenant turned out to be a fraud, converting my home to a marijuana grow house.
This is what the tenant did to my home:
I had just been discharged from the hospital, following emergency surgery and after having also just battled cancer the year before.
The tenant stopped paying rent as of August 1, 2019 and abandoned the home, leaving extensive and intentional damages and trash in her wake.
The home was abandoned just before our lease expired. I was also left with their unpaid water bills.
I cannot ever hope to recover from this. The damages are extensive. I can’t afford any of the repairs.
The home cannot be re rented because it's not habitable. It just sits vacant with mold, maggots, collapsed ceilings, filth and all.
Even worse, my insurance broker had urged me to switch from my previous policy that would have covered tenant damages, to another company that doesn’t.
When I called to tell my broker what had happened, he told me to put in a claim--that I was covered, but he was wrong. And my claim was denied.
A mold remediation company is needed before any repairs can be done.
Even a donation of $10 would help so no one person feels burdened, so sharing would also be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you for this show of caring…and the kind words of support.
