Tents for Puerto Rico Disaster Relief
Donation protected
Puerto Rico experienced a devastating earthquake in late 2019 and 2020 that destroyed a significant portion of the buildings on the southern end of the island.
American Tent has partnered with several organizations (American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, The Seafarers Union, etc) to ship 20x30 pole tents down to Puerto Rico to build temporary structures for classrooms at schools that were destroyed and other service buildings.
Several members of our team will be donating our time from March 1-4 to travel down to Puerto Rico and assist the National Guard and other volunteers to install tents and as well as train them on installation.
We are raising funds for both our travel and for supplies that we will bring down with us on our flight (including soccer balls for local kids!). After covering the cost of travel and essential supplies, all additional funds raised will go towards supplying more tents and their installation for the residents of southern Puerto Rico.
Here are some additional details:
1. We own and operate American Tent (www.americantent.com) - a manufacturer of commercial grade event tents in Green Bay, WI.
2. We have manufactured nearly 100 tents for disaster relief from the earthquakes in Puerto Rico. We will be donating our time and traveling from March 1-4 to help to install the tents with volunteers and the National Guard.
3. I will be providing updates on how your funds have been used - but the primary use is to get out team to Puerto Rico, provide in-demand supplies like insect repellent, school supplies, and any additional funds will be used to send future tents down to PR
4. We will be distributing supplies on our first visit (and hopefully subsequent visits) directly to those affected. For example, we are bringing soccer balls to hand out to kids at all the schools we will be visiting.
Any question - please email me at [email redacted]. GoFundMe asked that I clarify that funds will be withdrawn and distributed by me personally - rather than through the business. Right now I’m just funding everything on my personal credit cards so we have supplies to bring with this weekend for our first trip!
