Terence Shevlin's Tribute

It is with a heavy heart that I disclose the passing of my uncle Terence “Terry” Shevlin, 44, born on September 12, 1977, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, March 10, 2022. This unfathomable event is grief filled for all his loved ones, especially our family. He was not only a father figure to his children, but to my cousins and I as well. Uncle Terry has helped shaped us to the individuals we are today. There are no words to express my gratitude enough for all the ways he had made my life happier, sweeter, and simpler. I never understood the true meaning of I miss you, until he left this Earth. In lieu of flowers, our family is seeking funds to support my aunt, Maritza Shevlin, through college expenses for Collin & Eva Shevlin.

Terry, a lifelong resident of Weehawken, NJ decided to follow in his father’s footsteps, (Retired Chief of Department Edward Flood) by joining the North Hudson Fire Department on September 10, 2007. Very early on in Terry’s career, his “tell it like it is” attitude, passion to serve, and his drive to make anything he’s involved in the best that it could be, gained the respect of his peers. On April 22, 2015, Terry was promoted to Captain and was eventually assigned to Engine Company 5, part of North Hudson’s 2nd Battalion, where he served in the immediate area where he was raised and continued to live throughout his prestigious career. Terry played a key role in the 3rd Platoon’s 2nd Battalion. Even more than being a great firefighter, Terence was a husband, father and friend to so many wonderful people who cherished him. Beyond the undisputed love and unmistakable pride for his wife, his children, and his dogs, Jaxon and Jack, Terry loved vacations, cooking, and a night with friends enjoying the finer things in life.

Terence will be survived by his wife, Maritza Shevlin; children, Collin and Eva Shevlin, and Serenity Vazquez; mother, Carole Shevlin; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rosal and Evaristo Morales, siblings-in-law, Natasha and David Morales; niece and nephews, David, Michael, and Noah Morales, and Anastasia and Jamisen Martinez; and great-nephews, Ezra and Avery Batista-Martinez. He is predeceased by his father, Edward Flood. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, brothers and sisters in North Hudson Regional Fire Rescue and all that have known him.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us to mourn the passing of Terence. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Leber Funeral Home, 2000 Kennedy Blvd, Union City, NJ 07087. A funeral service will occur Friday, March 18, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 2000 Kennedy Blvd, Union City, NJ 07087. A committal service will occur Friday, March 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Garden State Crematory, 4101 Kennedy Blvd, North Bergen, NJ 07047.

Thank you all in advance, for your condolences and love over this extremely difficult time. We are all blessed to have experienced and known Terry, and will forever carry on his memory.
