Teresa & Darrell Moore Medical Recovery Fund

On Friday, May 29th, 2020,  Teresa Moore, 57 and her husband Darrell, 52 were returning home after a long day of work and dinner. That’s when without warning, an SUV crossed into their lane and within a fraction of a second Teresa swerved enough to avoid the head on collision only to take the brunt of the impact…….
The crash occurred on Tom Austin Hwy around 9:45 pm. The two vehicles collided head-on leaving Teresa trapped inside her vehicle. Firefighters from the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department had to use hydraulic equipment to free Teresa from the crumpled wreck. Teresa was clearly in distress as first responders worked to free her. She was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville in critical condition. Teresa’s husband Darrell was also transported to the hospital with injuries.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Cornilius Dominic Matthews, 39, of Nashville driving a 2016 Buick Enclave, was arrested following the crash. He was transported to the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield and charged with- (Vehicular Assault, Reckless Endangerment w/ Deadly Weapon, DUI, Driving on a Suspended License, Implied Consent and Simple Possession Sch6).

Teresa sustained severe injuries to her left shoulder, arm, elbow and wrist, which resulted in 7 broken bones all of which required surgeries.  She has over 300 stitches in her left arm. She also sustained a broken fibula in her right foot, and after surgery now has a 6” screw in her foot.  Teresa will require lots of physical therapy.  She was released from the hospital on Tuesday June 16th  wheelchair bound.  Darrell sustained a broken wrist and the other wrist was injured as well.  Teresa and Darrell are currently staying with a family member, since their home is not handicap accessible.  A ramp had to be built to allow wheelchair access into the home. Since it is a basement apartment, they are staying there so that they can use the handicap accessible bathroom and shower. Teresa is currently sleeping in a chair as she is not able to get in and out of a bed.  Due to the extent of their injuries, and possible more surgeries and therapy to come, Teresa and Darrell are both not able to work for an indefinite period of time. Teresa is on short-term disability and will only be receiving 60% of her pay for the next 6 months.

If you have been to Metro Codes to obtain a permit or to ask a question, then you most likely have met Teresa ‘the personality behind the desk’. If you have waited in the lobby for any length of time you would probably experience ‘the director’ in action, calling for obedience, giving directions, and at times you can hear the banter back and forth before the halls echo with laughter.

Teresa is always the one who wants to help people.  She treats everyone like family, and goes above and beyond to serve customers, even when they are not always kind to her.  She has a smile that will light up a room.  Her love for the Lord shows in her actions and her words every day.

Teresa and Darrell can use our help now. They will have medical expenses (deductibles and copayments), therapy, and loss of income.   Teresa and Darrell both have a strong faith and unyielding positive outlook and neither would ever ask for anything from anybody, but I will.  Please give what you can no matter what amount.  Every donation will help!  This is going to be a long road for them and everything you do will make a difference.  Thank you in advance for your generosity.  Your prayers are always welcome!
