5/6/17 -
The news the last couple weeks has not been what we had hoped for Teresa. We learned that the transplant that she had in February was not successful. The myeloma has relapsed already. At this time there are no plans for another transplant. Then, last week after a PET scan, the doctors found that the plasma cell neoplasm has also developed again. Although that means the prognosis isn't good, the doctors at Mayo are still looking for research trials and other means of attacking this aggressive cancer. Teresa is starting Chemo again this week, and is determined to keep fighting.
We are wanting to reinvigorate this campaign in hopes of raising funds, to provide some financial relief for the Shanks family, and if possible, allow them to take a family trip.
Thank you for anything you are able to contribute!

In late September 2016 Teresa was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The diagnosis came as a complete surprise to she and her family. It has been a whirlwind since her diagnosis. Starting chemo, a five day hospital stay, and more chemo. This is all leading up to her stem cell transplant which is scheduled for late January or early February 2017.
Teresa has been fortunate to be able to continue working as she has been able, between chemo and other doctor appointments. She will need to go on disablity pay in early 2017.
All $ raised by this site will go to helping Teresa & Steve continue to pay their medical bills, mortgage, car payments and other bills, in addition to the added costs they will have for housing, etc while they are in Rochester for the 5+ weeks for the stem cell harvesting and tranplant.
Teresa and her family are so appreciative of the support that they have already received.
I have known Teresa for more than 25 years, and I know that asking for help is not easy for her. I am hopeful that this site can help to raise money to take financial stressors off their plate so they can focus on Teresa fighting this disease, and not worrying about how these bills will be paid.
THANK YOU for anything you are able to contribute!
