Terry Bond was severely injured when struck on the head by the unexpected collapse of a large branch while working in his yard. The accident partially severed his spinal cord, leaving him almost completely paralyzed, and fractured his skull and shoulder.
Terry has been transferred out of state to Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado for intensive months-long therapy to maximize and relearn mobility and life skills. His wife, Sherri, is also at the hospital, actively working alongside him during this journey of recovery. Both of them miss their family, home, and friends so much, but realize that the therapies and treatment at Craig Hospital can provide him with the best possible outcome to allow him a full and productive life. The family is receiving phenomenal care and attention from the hospital staff.
The severity of the accident has left Terry unable to meet his work obligations. For those of you who know Terry personally, working and providing for his family has been his priority throughout his life, sometimes working two or three jobs at a time. Though grieving this loss and dealing with the hard work of therapy, he has committed himself wholeheartedly to recover from his injuries, return to employment, and an active family life.
Terry and Sherri celebrated their 40th anniversary during their first week at Craig Hospital. They have three children, Amber, Ashlee, and Alex (wife: Kayla), three grandchildren, Cooper, Eleanor, and Theodore. Their favorite activities include game nights with their family and gardening. Terry is also an incredibly talented wood-worker, who enjoys gifting friends and family original and amazing creations, big and small. Terry and Sherri are also very involved in their church, Crossway Baptist in Springfield, Missouri.
Terry is an Army Veteran, joining directly after high school graduation, and serving honorably overseas. He has lived his life by the Army Warrior Code which states: "I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit.” Terry is applying that Code to his recovery. Like a true Warrior, Terry has promised his family he will never quit.
While he is unable to work, family and friends want to support Terry and Sherri in every way possible to allow the focus to remain on his recovery. Any donations made will go directly towards medical bills, living expenses, and equipment/supplies needed throughout his recovery. His medical team anticipates it could be up to two years before knowing how much movement and strength he will regain. Terry will be at Craig Hospital through most of August and then will transfer to outpatient therapy, possibly at the VA Rehabilitation Center also located in Denver.
This page will continue to update friends/family/donors on Terry's recovery.
For those who wish to support locally, an account has been set up at Multipli Credit Union (Springfield, Missouri) under Terry and Sherri Bond. The account has a notation of "Terry Bond Paralysis Fund."
