Our Terry’s story

Terry moved home to Ireland in 2017 after many years living in the UK, to be closer to his mother and family. Terry was a healthy regular gym goer 6 days a week and loving the beautiful out doors of home, but unfortunately on January 17th 2019, a day we will never forget, Terry went into A&E with what we all thought was a hernia from heavy lifting in the gym. Terry was brought straight for surgery due to a tumor blocking the bowel and lesions on the liver; he was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer and it had spread to his liver.

This news hit Terry and the rest of us so hard as he was always health conscious and was a very fit man. But Terry looked at this as a challenge and took on his first 12 sessions of chemo like a trooper, as well as taking cbd oil. The treatment was successful in clearing any cancer in his bowels & the lesions on his liver had shrunk. The liver specialist in Dublin booked Terry to have his liver resection surgery to remove the bad part of the liver out.
This was a major surgery, with a long & painful recovery, but due to an incident on the day Terry was due for surgery something went wrong and Terry’s surgery was canceled.

Terry went weeks without word, or any sort of treatment, but after persistent calls the hospital realised Terry was taken off the surgery list as his file was not put back in for the surgery again (human error).
After 20 + weeks of no treatment or medication Terry was finally taken into surgery, but they had to stop as tumors on Terry’s liver had aggressively grown, 1 of which is growing on the main artery into the liver and 4 more aggressive tumors grown strong on the liver.
This pushed Terry back to square one. He then had to recover from the stopped surgery and now undergoing intense chemo; it is very severe compared to the 1st one he was on, but fighting through it as best he can.

But this is not the end of the journey for Terry, he still faces major surgery again at the end of this intense chemo, if they can. He will be left with a small part of his liver, which has major risks, and will be facing chemo again on top of everything else.

This go fund me page was originally set up to give Terry something to look forward to, but now with Terry being a high risk for Covid19 we’re asking for your help to raise money to help cover bills, and for when Terry has to go for surgery and further treatment, that we as a family can afford to cover accommodation for Terry’s partner and our mother to be close to him when this next battle comes. So if you can find it in your hearts to give anything, you can even give the price of a pint, us as a family would really appreciate it and thank you for taking the time to read this.
