Terry’s Fight with cancer
Terry Doran is a 1 in a million kind of guy! Terry
is a 22 year old driven, dedicated, honest,
hardworking, funny, kind person who in a very
short time (less than a year) made and
impression/impact on everyone he came in
contact with. A product of a great family of
honest, loving, hardworking and humble family
of caring people it is easy to understand where
he got his traits.
In June of 2018 Terry joined the team at Kent Power Inc. In the Natural Gas Distribution industry in Michigan as a laborer in the Local 355 union on a production crew and instantly made a name
for himself amongst all crews. From the outset
Terry’s goal was to work his way to becoming an operator in the local 324 Operator’s Union. The foreman that Terry first worked for once said
“When you take him and make him an operator
I’m gonna need two laborers to replace him.”
In May of 2019 Terry was promoted to an
operator on a directional bore rig in large
part due to his work ethic and dependability and in small part because the foreman he was
going to work with said “ I will go on a big rig, but only if I get Terry!” In less than a year Terry had
reached his goal of becoming an operator on a
directional drill. Not only is Terry an asset to his
company and coworkers, he has become beloved by his coworkers who now call him friend.
Shortly after being promoted to an operator
Terry noticed a growth in and around his
armpit. Not wanting to be one to complain or
make a big fuss of himself Terry pushed on, not
wanting to let down or disappoint his friends and coworkers by missing work.
Fast forward to early February 2020 the growth had slowly grown and become uncomfortable
but a new symptom had arose. Terry had
stomach pains that caused him to miss his first
day of work due to the pain. After much
convincing from friends, coworkers and his
girlfriend McKenna Terry reluctantly went to
the emergency room.
Doctor’s there informed Terry that his intestines were twisting around his stomach and he would need to stay over night, rest and see if the pain
subsided. Not wanting to miss work Terry checked out of the ER to go home and rest.
The next day, after phone calls from his foreman, coworkers and the persistence of McKenna
Terry decided it was time to get some answers.
After a biopsy of the growth and some testing doctors concluded that Terry had in fact
had Non Hodgkin Lymphoma and Burkitts
Lymphoma cancer. Many do not know of
Burkitts Lymphoma forms of cancer because it is a rare and very aggressive form of cancer. It was determined at this point to be stage 2 cancer.
Over the next week or so Terry’s doctors had formulated a plan of attack with chemotherapy
treatments, hospital stay and expectations
moving forward. In that short time The cancer
had went from stage 2 to stage 4.(Burkitts) and a pet scan had revealed the Cancer had spread throughout his chest, the rib cage and begun to
penetrate the bone in his leg.
Being a 22 year old and just starting out building a life of his own with his girlfriend McKenna
buying a home and a truck. Terry’s doctors have predicted he will be in and out of chemotherapy treatments for 4-6 months and expect recovery time to be an additional few months before he
can be cleared to come back to work. During this time, although Terry does have
insurance he will have very limited resources to keep up on living expenses and bills. We want to ensure that Terry does not have the additional
stress of bill payments etc so he can 100% focus on fighting this terrible disease!
Thank you for whatever help you can give! Terry is a humble, private man who never thought he would be in a situation to rely on others for help but appreciates the outpouring of love and
support from his family and friends.
