Texas Rent Relief is the worst

My name is Maddison and I am a single mom of two amazing kids.

I will keep this short-

Back in September 2021 Texas Rent Relief approved me for a little over three months rent. Which was a huge breath of fresh air for me given I was only contracting and trying to find a full time position.

Fast forward to today, Texas Rent Relief still has not paid my apartment complex for those three months of rent. They are now going to evict me if I don’t pay the full amount of $6,100 by April 16th.

I have called Texas Rent Relief a total of 57 times, the Texas Housing and Community department 39 times, and emailed 135 times trying to get the funds dispersed to my landlord, informing them of how this issue has escalated and it is a legit emergency. Their answers all are the same “the funds are on their way”. I spoke with two legal aid lawyers because this feels extremely illegal but it’s not.

The great news is I did get a full time job (started at the very end of last month) and my first full paycheck comes at the end of this month. Just about 13 days shy of this eviction.

I am out of stuff to sell and am beyond exhausted stressing over how going through an eviction would impact my kids. So this is my Hail Mary because I am just not sure what else to do. Maybe it will work or maybe the universe has other plans but I sure as hell gave my absolute all to fighting this.
