A Place to Call Home

One year ago, when my sister Sara was diagnosed with ALS, we had no idea what challenges truly layed ahead. Doctor visits, research, and books, don't even come close to prepare you for the everyday trials and tribulations that accompany this truly debilitating disease. From day one, Sara's only concern has not been that of herself, but that of her children and their future. Her prayers were answered when her lifelong best friend graciously asked Sara if she could adopt and raise her children. Melissa is a hard working single mother herself, and one of Sara's last wishes is to secure a home for her and her suddenly large family. Melissa has a good job at Alcoa, and will be able to make the monthly morgage payments and insure the children. Friends, family, and even strangers have been extremely generous in supporting Sara during this terrible illness. We are reaching out again, hoping that together we can raise $20,000 for a down payment on a home in Moline. We have already received donations from immediate family, but now need to reach out to extended family, friends, and our community to reach our goal.  Although Sara won't be the one raising her children, and teaching them life's lessons, she finds great comfort knowing they will be loved and have their own "Place to Call Home."  Any donation size would make a lasting impact.
