Teachers for Yuwa School
"There is a place where I feel comfortable and safe. That is my school, Yuwa School. I have people here who love me, care about me, and always guide me to do better. I am not good at drawing but they put my drawings on the wall. They celebrate my birthday. They listen to my thoughts and appreciate them. This is the place where I can grow freely."
-Ishita, 4th Standard Student
Yuwa works in rural Jharkhand, where 6 out of 10 girls drop out of school and become child brides. To break this cycle, girls need confidence, resilience, a supportive community, and a quality education.
This holiday season, your donation to Yuwa will fund the salaries for two teachers for the 2019-2020 school year. Yuwa School is a non-profit, college preparatory academy for girls from vulnerable backgrounds. With 94 students and 9 full-time teachers, Yuwa School creates a holistic and academically challenging environment which aims to put girls powerfully in charge of their own futures, enabling them to break out of the cycle of poverty--permanently.
Yuwa School teachers come from diverse backgrounds across India and abroad. They are passionate, professional, and endlessly resourceful--often finding creative ways to make the most of the materials available.
This holiday, your gift will bring two inspiring teachers to a group of girls who are hungry to learn.
"Here, teachers and even the principal are like friends to the girls. They mingle. Most importantly, children have fun in school. They enjoy being in school. If they don’t want to miss even a single day of school, surely there’s a good reason for it. This interest just wasn’t there in the other school. I hear that my daughter Rima has not missed even a single day (in over 3 years) and the only reason is because she loves it. She’s moving far ahead in her future and is learning just the way I wanted her to."
-Dayanand, a Yuwa School father
