Double your impact on pre-service teacher training

Dear Friends,

Teachers are carrying more responsibility than ever. We know that many of you can understand this.

Yet, in Cambodia, teachers are not getting the training they need to support the millions of children that have lost up to 3,000 formal learning hours in the past two years. This is on top of highly challenging learning conditions before the pandemic.

This is why we seek to raise $50,000 with a generous matching grant for our Summer Leadership Academy (SLA) by the end of September to prepare incoming teachers (called Teach For Cambodia Fellows) to teach 4,000 students in the upcoming academic year.

Fellows like Putheavy are dedicated to unlocking the potential of all students through quality teaching. Please keep reading to see how Putheavy’s mindset changed during her training and propelled her into her current role as a teacher mentor.

Putheavy was an existing physics teacher in Kampong Chhnang when she joined the fellowship. She did not believe at the time that she could make a difference in all her students.

However, the Summer Leadership Academy completely transformed her. She became someone who could see that her small actions as a teacher could create significant changes in her students.

Today, Putheavy is a teacher mentor for a network of public schools in Cambodia. She is supporting 26 teachers just like her to build relationships with their students and apply new teaching strategies to enable student learning.

We will welcome a new cohort of TFC Fellows to the 2022 Summer Leadership Academy this November. Teach For Cambodia staff and training partners will equip our teachers (fellows) with the skills and mindset to deliver a 4-week summer school to 200 students at risk of repeating their grade levels. All our teachers will gain the foundation they need to teach and lead 4,000 students in marginalized communities in the 2023 school year.

HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP:

1. Donate 100 USD towards supporting a portion of a summer school classroom that will provide 80 hours of learning to students at risk of repeating their grade level.

2. Donate 50 USD towards supporting training for one TFC Fellow on pedagogy and leadership and equip them with the knowledge and skills to support 250 students each in 2023.

3. Donate 25 USD towards supporting a student at risk of repeating their grade level to participate in a 4-week summer school program and receive math, functional literacy and life skills lessons.

If you donate by mid October, your gift to Teach For Cambodia will be doubled. However, a donation in any amount will be greatly appreciated.
