Karen's Medical Fund

Our sister Karen Phalen Robinett is a single mother with 3 grown daughters, 4 granddaughters and 2 grandsons on the way. In 2013 she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. In May of that same year she had cranial surgery only to find out that it was a Meningioma and because it was wrapped around the optic nerve, the surgeon didn’t remove any of it. He was afraid of causing a stroke or of losing the eye. She followed up with radiation to try to keep the tumor from growing but it didn’t work and Chemo is not effective against this type of tumor. Karen has had progressive pain, vision problems and numbness since her surgery. Her last MRI has shown that the tumor is spreading “roots” which are putting pressure on her brain and causing swelling. This has forced her eye to remain closed. She’s no longer able to work as a nurse because she can’t control the pain. She has seen many Dr.’s in the KC area with no success. Her only options are to try to get into a clinical trial (experimental treatment) and to go to the Mayo Clinic. Her medical bills are more than she can handle so we are raising money to help her with that and with the expense of going out of state for treatment.
