Jason's Fearless Fight

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

Jason Barner is a loved brother, friend, partner and son. He loves spending time with his corgi (Maisie), going to wineries or food festivals with family and friends, and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. He’s also a huge music lover who is always listening to music and singing along to his favorite songs.

In the beginning of February Jason started to have some symptoms that included memory loss and tiredness. On Friday, February 7th Jason was brought to the emergency room due to his significant worsening of his memory, change in behavior and its effect on his work. CT scans showed something that the doctors wanted a specialist to take a look at and he was then transferred to University of Penn Hospital.

An MRI showed that Jason had a brain tumor in his thalamus, which was causing his symptoms. The plan was to get Jason into surgery as soon as possible.

On Monday, February 10th Jason underwent surgery to extract as much of the tumor as possible. Jason stayed in the ICU for a week and was then placed on the neuro floor to be monitored for few days. Jason was transferred and admitted to a rehabilitation facility to be able to start physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech in order to get back to functioning.

His stay there was short due to a drop in blood pressure and fever. Jason was transferred back to the hospital where he still remains due to sporadic fevers. Scans have shown that the tumor has not grown, which is good, but we are still looking at answers for his fevers.

On February 28th Jason’s oncologists informed us that the tumor is Midline Glioma with the H3 K27M mutation. To start Jason’s road to recovery, he will be undergoing 6 weeks of radiation therapy. At the completion of radiation we will know if Jason qualifies for clinical trials on a cancer drug to help kick this terrible disease.

This time has been quite the roller coaster, and all came on very quickly. While this is not what we could have ever imagined, with his support system behind him we are hopeful that Jason will make a recovery. We ask for positivity, prayers and support during this time.

This fund is to assist his family to help cover expenses including his prolonged hospital stay, cancer treatments and any other expenses faced through this time. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated!
