In order to be protest proof and free to speak the the truth Thanet Star needs to keep up to date with the cost of maintaining the server. While the data centre (based in the USA) have been exceedingly gracious about late payments when the pressure is on it is easier to defend a client who is up to date.
That's why we are turning to you our loyal readers to help us keep the lights on. Every last penny raised will be spent on server costs. Not a penny will go to our writers, editors or anyone else. To keep the lights on it costs US$84 a month which is about £45 to £53 depending on the exchange rate. Since Thanet Star was first launched the server has mostly been paid for by the editors themselves. Adverts cover an average of just 8% of the yearly costs.
This campaign represents the total cost of keeping online until the end of 2014. For just £1.72 a day we can serve news to all of Thanet and tell the stories that the regular press back away from. We would like to continue doing that. Will you help us speak the truth to power?
