UPDATE: I write now with great sadness to tell you that Martin made his final transition, peacefully at home with his family on the evening of Sept 3rd and as is the custom in Spain, his body was interred on the 5th.

Martin was interred into what is termed a ‘niche’, essentially a pauper’s ‘grave’ without any form of marking. He can rest there for up to 6 years before being moved to a communal grave.

This does not seem appropriate for a man who contributed so much to the world, not only via his 14 ground breaking books, willing to expose the travesties others would not write about, but also his lifelong activism forcing change in the prison system, highlighting issues during the Troubles in Northern Ireland and exposing the world of vivisection. Martin was also an accomplished artist with some of his political posters in the Victoria and Albert museum in London.

There will be a number of more detailed tributes over the next few months.

As you know I set up this GoFundMe for Martin as a way to bring him and his wife Viviana, some basic comforts during his grave illness and thank you all for your support, including those of you who donated, not knowing at the time that Martin had passed. (It took a while for this information to be communicated given the speed with which the practicalities have to be processed in Spain).

Because of the family’s dire financial circumstances, they do not have the means to fulfil Martin’s wishes to be cremated and for his ashes to be scattered in a place of his choosing.

I would like to propose that we continue this fundraiser in order to enable his family to fulfil his final wishes and to help with some of the necessary expenses that a death incurs, in particular the death of a UK citizen in Spain.

His family and I thank you for your support for him and his work during his final weeks and now for this next step in his transition.

Martin wrote Dirty Medicine, the original exposure of the pharma industry that opened eyes and minds back in 1993. He has since published 13 other books further exposing aspects of the medical industrial complex. In 2011 he put his focus on the orchestrated attacks on CAMs in the UK. Some of us who were on that frontline, especially in the world of homeopathy got a mention in his Dirty Medicine the Handbook published that year.

Martin is now very, very ill. Two weeks ago he was allowed home after an extended period in hospital so he can be cared for by his wife.

In order to nurse him, she has had to give up work and those of you who know Martin, will also know he has never been financially rewarded for his decades of remarkable work bringing the truth to the public.

At 78, now almost blind and unable to walk, he accepts that his writing days are over.

If you know Martin or you’ve only read his work, I would like to invite you to help support him and his wife at this time. It is a matter of urgency because Martin is not eligible for any help from the government where they live, and they currently have no income to provide even basic comfort to him. They currently have no hot water or heating, fortunately it is summer but that will change in a matter of weeks.
