Thank you Addenbrookes NCCU - Jack's Story

Jack Frost is a senior EMT working for the NHS East of England Ambulance Service. Prior to this, he was an inspector in the Metropolitan Police, and a diver in the Royal Engineers regiment of the Army before that. He is also a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He has an unforgettable, infectious personality that has touched the lives of many.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jack set out on a mission to raise awareness of the severity of the virus from an ambulance crew's point of view. He wanted to show how distraught people would feel if their loved ones were left struggling to breathe, or how ignorant people would feel when their family member can't get a hospital bed because there are none left. He desperately wanted to get people to realise that the threat from Covid-19 is a serious one, and that people should stick to the restrictions that have been put in place by the government. He just wanted people to stay home and realise that this virus can, and will, affect anyone. He wanted people to know that this virus does not discriminate.

In an effort to protect his family, he moved out of his home and into a Travelodge where he continued working. In attending calls, he noticed that many people are calling an ambulance when it's not essential. He has attended many of these calls in recent weeks and been in close contact with patients, including those carrying Covid-19. Those on the frontline, be it in the NHS, the Police, supermarkets, delivery services, etc. put themselves at risk every time they come into contact with someone.

In doing his job helping others so selflessly, Jack has now contracted Covid-19, even though he followed all of the necessary precautions and used all of the relevant PPE. He unfortunately has developed severe symptoms that worsened over a period of days, resulting in admission to intensive care, being induced into a coma and put on a ventilator to take over his breathing. Jack is currently being treated in the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge who have so generously opened up their ward to critical Covid-19 patients.

We want to share Jack's message and his story to show people that anyone, even the heroes on our front line that we depend on, can and will succumb to this virus when exposed to it.

Jack's message is simple:
1. STAY HOME
2. Only go out if it's ESSENTIAL
3. Don't phone for an ambulance unless you or a family member is having a GENUINE MEDICAL EMERGENCY.

It can happen to you, your family, your friends, and anyone else too.

More importantly, we want to use this platform we have to raise money as a thank you for the fantastic, selfless doctors, nurses, HCAs and all other NHS staff providing Jack and so many others suffering from Covid-19 with incredible round the clock care, specifically the Addenbrookes NCCU. We want to thank you for giving your all and risking YOUR health to stabilise our Jack, and many others. We want them all to know just how appreciated they are. The money raised will go towards the wellbeing of the staff, including towards hot meals, God knows they deserve it.

THANK YOU ADDENBROOKES NCCU. THANK YOU NHS. You are loved, appreciated and we are ALL in awe of you for carrying on to make sure other people survive even in this horrific time, under these awful circumstances.

Please share and donate if you can.
