March 17th 2017 a day we will never forget. My 29 year old daughter Lacey Nobles was found unresponsive and in a myxoedema coma due to a thyroid problem. 911 was called and EMS arrived to assist... immediately administering an IO ....( Intraosseous infusion (IO) is the process of injecting directly into the marrow of a bone to provide a non-collapsible entry point into the systemic venous system)
Directly into her right leg that was meant for the bone but unfortunately went into the muscle. She was taken to the local hospital and put on a ventilator . While in ICU she was stabilized for the original condition she was found in but sadly the issue with her leg went undetected for over 10 hours. During that time blood circulation was being cut off causing compartmental syndrome, which ultimately started the muscles inside her leg to die . She was transported to another Hospital requiring emergency surgery to try and save her leg. Over the next 5 weeks with multiple skin graphs, wound vacs and 7 surgeries later she had developed blood clots and severe infection which Doctors feared would become septic...so a quick decision had to be made to save her life ...her leg had to be amputated.
Due to complications they were unfortunately unsuccessful at the first surgery attempt to amputate her leg requiring an additional 2 more surgeries for a total of 10 surgeries and over 6 weeks stay in the hospital. This has been a nightmare and so traumatic for her family.
Lacey is the mother of two young children ages seven and nine and her husband is medically retired after two heart attacks and 3 back surgeries in 2016. Needless to say financially this has been a huge struggle for the entire family. Lacey came home from the hospital two days ago and just to be able to gain access into her own home required a deck / ramp addition costing close to $1,700. A wheelchair was donated but other adjustments are needed inside the home such as widening doors for wheelchair accessibility and a complete bathroom renovation made handicap accessible... just to name a few. All of this has created a huge burden and we are desperately seeking help to provide the necessities so Lacey can begin a life learning her "new normal" as an amputee. While this story is very tragic in what can go wrong when reaching out for help during a medical emergency, we are very thankful that we still have her !
We are eternally grateful for ANY amount you can give as every dollar adds up and will be a huge blessing! Thank you for your support and God bless ♡
