As part of a project to give back to Native Americans, a delegation from Philadelphia led by Judy Wicks is joining friends from other cities and heading to Standing Rock this Thanksgiving. In thanks to the Protectors, the group is cooking and serving over 500 dinners, including roasting pasture-raised turkeys on spits over the open fire. (The turkey was first domesticated by Native Americans and all the foods served were first cultivated by native people of the Americas, including pototoes, corn, peppers, squash, pumpkin, chocolate and cranberries. ) Our delegation will include youth who will bring Thanksgiving cards from area school children thanking Native Americans for protecting Mother Earth in an effort to better educate youth on these issues.
We are working with native leaders on the ground to arrange this dinner. We are also raising money for winterization of the camp, including a straw bale community center. For information on that fundraiser and to donate, please go to: https://honorearth.nationbuilder.com/makagioti
This gofundme appeal is raising funds to cover Thanksgiving food and transportation (the organizers have paid for their own). Help us give back to Native Americans this Thanksgiving season to express our gratitude for their courageous stand at Standing Rock.
After 500 years of genocide and betrayal, the Standing Rock Sioux and Native American tribes from throughout the Americas are providing leadership toward a sustainable future for all of our children and grandchildren. Risking their own safety and comfort, native people are standing up to corporate control and militarism to protect their water, land and way of life.
While doing so, they are demonstrating the values needed to move our country forward - respect for Mother Earth and all species, collaboration, generosity, non-violence, humility and love. Following the leadership at Standing Rock, we can take action in our own communities and begin a new era in American history when we defend the rights of Native people and the rights of nature.
Any amount is appreciated by November 21st, 2016--we appreciate your support!
Note: Due to the outpouring of generosity, we have raised our goal to $10,000 in order to feed more people. Any amount raised above our food and travel needs will go into the fund at Honor the Earth to help build the straw bale community center mentioned above .
Please share this appeal with your friends and family.
