The 2024 CancerBae Classic!

Hello everyone,
My name is Will Wise, and I am a former professional basketball player turned coach and community coordinator at The Richmond Knights in London. I am also currently a stage 4 cancer patient and proudly serve as a Media Ambassador for Cancer Research UK (you can find more about my journey in the links below). I work with loads of kids all throughout London and many of these young talents play for national teams in the UK's various leagues. I'm reaching out to share an incredible opportunity and heartfelt cause that I believe will make a significant impact on our community in more ways then one.
Our Story:
As a stage 4 cancer patient and former professional basketball player, I've dedicated myself to both the game of basketball and the changing of the stigma associated with Cancer. Most people hear the word cancer and immediately think of it as a taboo word or something to be spoken of in secrecy.
Since my diagnosis in January 2023 I have been on a mission to help change the stigma associated with Cancer because people who are stage 4 like myself it is no longer about fighting, surviving or even battling Cancer, its about living with it. This is why I started #CancerBae, an online movement which serves as a platform of hope, love and support for those currently going through their Cancer journey. As of today, my curated hashtag #Cancerbae has garnered approximately 16 million impressions and my story has been featured in Newsweekly, The Advertiser, The Evening Standard and on ESPN just to mention a few.
I've organized the 2024 CancerBae Classic, a U12 National Invitational Basketball Tournament, scheduled to take place during the weekend of August 30th – September 1st, 2024, at the Essex Sports Arena. This tournament aims to fill a gap by providing an unofficial national playoff for elite U12 teams across all of the UK.
Why We Need Your Support:
The CancerBae Classic isn't just about basketball; it's about raising awareness for Cancer and supporting Cancer Research. With the help of our partner Cancer Research UK, and our sponsors SBB, Define Talent, IC- Resources, and The Drip Water and the support from our governing Basketball body, Basketball England, we're aiming to make this event a huge success, both on and off the court.
How Your Donation Will Help:
Your donation will go towards covering the event's expenses, including venue rental, equipment, merchandise and logistics as well as helping to offer discounted accommodation for participating teams, ensuring that every team has the opportunity to be a part of this event!
Lastly, your donation will contribute to the event's overall fundraising goal! Which you will find out more about below.
Our Goal:
We're aiming to raise at least £12,000 to ensure the success of the 2024 CancerBae Classic as well as a large portion of the events profits being donated to our Partner; Cancer Research UK to help to support their life changing Cancer Research initiatives!
Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in this event as well as the lives of those affected by cancer and benefiting from Cancer Research UK's grown breaking work!
Join Us:
Join us in making the 2024 CancerBae Classic into a reality and supporting a cause that's all close to our hearts. Together, we can make a difference and show the power of community and teamwork, both on and off the court and provide these U12 teams with an event and environment that they never seen before!
