Basic resources for a Sri Lankan village school
Don protégé
On a visit to Sri Lanka, my family and I visited a school near Matara in the south of this beautiful country which is struggling to survive. Children have no facilities for learning, struggling with odd bits of musical equipment and a poorly equipped room of old, battered books and no technology or enough money for basic supplies like crayons or coloured paper. We didn’t know what school to visit when we travelled out but took a load of books hoping we would find somewhere appropriate who needed it. When we turned up out of the blue one rainy Monday, aided by our driver, the headteacher burst into tears. We realised they needed so much more and so spent two hours with the kids and staff and headed into town to buy them a laptop and projector and printer - they hadn’t even got a computer. The school is incredible, warm and full of kids who want to learn, smiling and happy but with a headteacher who is so full of passion she has been supplying her own equipment to help the children for the last three years.
We want to do more to help and would ask for your generosity so we can continue to equip the school with the technology support and basics they need.
As part of our commitment as a family we will be fundraising too throughout the year to reach our 5k. This is the headteacher receiving delivery of her projector the day after we visited that we ordered!
