I am asking you for my support to go on the adventure of my lifetime.
Hello My name is Philip Lock, I am 42 year old with high functioning autism. Travelling has been an interest since childhood. I have a fascination with bridges, tunnels and maps since elementary school.
Travelling with my grandfather
I had a loving grandfather whom took me places in the USA. My elementary school teacher inspired me to take a March Break trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. My favourite part of the trip was the journey. The journey to Myrtle Beach took two days with unique scenery along the way including mountains.
My teacher, Susan Pidgeon remembers that I love to share my travel experiences by drawing them on the blackboard. She remembers a picture of a shopping plaza following a short trip to Buffalo, NY with my grandfather. I took many trips with my grandfather and saw many unique places. When he passed away in 1998, I did not get to have the chance to travel during high school.
Special Olympics
I have been a Special Olympics Nordic Skiing athlete since 2006, I had the privilege to see parts of Canada including Quebec City, Edmonton, Canmore, Corner Brook and Thunder Bay. I won many medals in my accomplishments at all levels of competition. In 2013, I was selected to go to the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Pyeong Chang, South Korea. I won two silver medals in my success at the international level of competition.
In 2021, I was selected to Special Olympics Team Canada to go to compete in Kazan, Russia. Due to the pandemic and geopolitical issues, the competition was cancelled.
My dream is to travel to the Arctic or the Antarctic (one of the polar regions)
Going on this experience will bring me hope and inspiration.
