The African American Christian Traditon: A Reader
Donation protected
Greetings Beloved,
The wait for an anthology to compile the historic and contemporary sources that comprise the African American Christian tradition is almost over. This once-in-a-generation volume was met with overwhelming enthusiasm when it was announced, and now we need your help!
I’m blessed to be on a team of four editors who have spent years developing a repository of 112 sermons, theological treaties, hymns, and correspondence spanning from the Antebellum Period through the second decade of the 20th century. Despite the largely oral nature of the Tradition, the volume will incorporate professing black Christians from Phillis Wheatley to Fannie Lou Hamer, and John Chavis to William E. Pannell with notes to help readers chart the historically orthodox arc of the African American Christian tradition.
This anthology is under contract with InterVarsity Press and is the first of a two-part project that will be followed by a theologically focused book chronicling the African American Christian tradition.
In order to honor the authors and publishers who produced the literature, 100% of this campaign’s proceeds will be used to pay for permissions fees to include the highest quality resources possible.
Those who participate in the compilation of this great Tradition with a donation of $100 or more, will have your name (or someone you’re donating in honor of) appear in the “Acknowledgments” section of the book. If you make a qualifying donation, please send a message to the organizer with the spelling of the name that you’d like to appear in the book (up to 25 characters) and indicate if the donation is in a designee’s honor.
If you make a financial donation, offer your prayers, forward the campaign link to others, or however you help, thank you for your support.
Every blessing in Christ,
Walter R. Strickland II, PhD. (General Editor)
