The Amazing Guy's Ultimate Go 'FUN'd Me!
Donation protected
This is a GoFundMe that no one should have to set up. Sadly, our beloved Thom Peterson, the Amazing Guy, is not going to get better...
Anna and Thom thank you from the bottom of their hearts for your continued support and for taking an interest in their lives. The support has been incredible, from monetary contributions to home-cooked meals, errand running, being sent pictures of cute animals, and simply being told that people are thinking of them. It is all appreciated and they are truly grateful. But now, the situation has changed for the worse…
From Annabel
“ I’m sorry that I have to share and confirm the news we’ve all been dreading. Unfortunately, the doctors have run out of treatment options for Thom. He’s regained much strength, mentally, and some physically, but not enough to risk chemo or anything else he would be eligible for. It’s too tough on him and it’s just not shrinking the smaller tumor area.
So, after coming up with a few options, we have made the informed decision to do nothing. We talked at length with an End of Life Doula, to help transition and accept this next stage.
We have accepted it. We have taken control. This is up to us. Our decision. We are entirely stopping all treatments and will not seek alternatives. We’re letting things run their natural course while enjoying the time we have left. No more crazy drugs (not for him anyway!). No more fighting with doctors and insurance people. No more hospitals. No more appointments, no prodding, and poking. Just us and our loved ones, being together as best and as long as we can. Having fun and making memories. And being able to say goodbye.
I don’t know how long we have, he’s ironically doing really well without the chemo. Mobility has had a severe setback but he’s mentally all there, sweet, and accepting of the situation. A treasure in a brutal situation.
We don’t feel we’ve lost a battle, as we never felt it was a war with the actual cancer. We don’t want to give it any more attention. We’ll dance with that stupid cancer until the dance ends. Then he’ll take a bow and leave, like the Amazing Guy he is.
We are beyond heartbroken and terrified as you can imagine, but more in love than ever“
This is a new GoFundMe, as they felt the need to close out the first one and begin fresh for a few reasons. The first one was about embracing treatment and getting better, which was invaluable, and immense help in the beginning stages of this monster trip. Having moved into a very different phase, one of acceptance and finality, the funds will be used very differently. This is now about how they will spend the final stages of life and how to build again once Thom leaves us. The first fundraiser, though filled with wonderful hope, encouragement, and promise, is, quite frankly, just too hard for Annabel to face each day. It is a reminder of what may have been and they need to be able to move forward with complete confidence and acceptance.
They intend to have as much fun as they can, and some of these funds will go towards making some special moments and laughter. And then for what comes after he's gone. It will help to assure Thom that Annabel will not be left destitute or alone after he is gone. Knowing these things is a great comfort to him.
Details of an upcoming online fundraising event and auction are to follow soon.
