The Annual Dan Kay Memorial Trophy - 2024
The Dan Kay Memorial Trophy football match returns for a second year to raise money for The Dan Kay Foundation. Dan, a celebrated Liverpool ECHO journalist and Hillsborough campaigner, died in May 2023 aged 45.
Dan's family, friends and colleagues have since raised over £13,000 and created a registered charity in his name to further his inspirational legacy.
The money raised has funded a range of initiatives including suicide first aid training and mental health awareness sessions, food for vulnerable families and a range of extracurricular sessions for young people in Liverpool.
Dan worked at the ECHO from 2003-2021 across news and sport and was a universally popular member of the newsroom. He was a driving force within the campaign for justice over Hillsborough both in his personal life and with the ECHO - where he was central to the coverage that stemmed from the disaster, most poignantly of the inquests that led to the ruling the 97 innocent men, women and children who lost their lives as a result of the tragedy were unlawfully killed.
The second Dan Kay Memorial Trophy football match takes place at the Liverpool FC training centre in Kirkby on Sunday 22nd September, with a fundraising event at Hotel Anfield from 5pm as Dan's family, friends and colleagues celebrate Dan, his life and his enduring legacy.
