The Appy Fund

As many of you know, I brought Appy home to my farm last week. Unfortunately he was not in a great situation and is not in the best shape.

Vet has confirmed he is blind in both eyes, at this point the eyes are so far gone that surgery isn't really a realistic option. Vet has said that with special care he can still have a good quality of life. He is also underweight and in need of general TLC.

We have gotten started: we've cleaned him up, gotten his feet trimmed, gotten him up to date on vaccines, and have him on a good diet. Already he seems to be perking up and getting back to his old self.

I am thrilled to have him home here, where I can guarantee he will have the best care and a safe place to live out his days. But it is a substantial financial commitment.

Here is a rough breakdown of what it will cost to care for Appy for a year:

School horses are the backbone of the horse business, every rider has to start somewhere and more often then not that is on the back of a patient school horse. It breaks my heart to see them cast aside when they are no longer able to do their jobs. They give us their best years, and I believe that in return we owe it to them to care for them in their senior years.

Appy is such a special pony who has spent the last 15+ teaching numerous people how to ride. If Appy played a part in your equine education, I hope you might consider contributing to make sure he is well cared for in his golden years. Any amount big or small is a huge help!
