The Atlantic Moviehouse Relaunch!
The Atlantic Moviehouse is a community-based entertainment venue which strives to create a unique, high quality movie going experience that provides a local alternative to big chain movie theaters. In our five screen (700+ seats) theater, guests will relax in comfort and watch superior presentations of popular movies, well-known classics, art house & foreign films. Additionally, our customers will be able to rent out the venues for a variety of performances, private parties, and special events. By providing a safe space to gather, we plan to promote community within the theater and beyond by connecting friends and strangers who enjoy and miss our own “cinema paradiso”. The Atlantic is housed in a beautiful, historic building where it has operated as a theater since around 1921 at 82 First Avenue in downtown Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey.
The Atlantic will open its doors to all those who love great performances, fun snacks, and the shared experience of going to the movies. We are looking to build relationships with other artists and businesses to benefit the entire community, economically as well as artistically. We know that everyone is looking to get out and reconnect after a very difficult fifteen month and so we will reopen the movie theatre quickly and safely, with some updates and changes you’re sure to love. But to do this properly, we need your help!
We will begin the theater’s renovation soon as possible before the soft opening and will continue up to and beyond the Grand Reopening. The work will start inside, rebranding and upgrading the lobby and halls as necessary. The first priority will be painting various sections of the interior of the foyer and walkways. Ideally, we would also like to replace the carpeting to help freshen up the environment as well as upgrades to the concession area depending on funding. And finally, if there are resources still available, an update to the marquis would make the perfect finishing touch!
There has been a huge outpouring of enthusiasm and support to save this iconic part of the town and all the history it holds. We cannot thank you enough for the kind words and encouragement and, with your help, we promise to do our best to launch this endeavor the right way and keep it going for more generations to come! Thank you, Tony and Sue.
