The Barksdale Family

Hi, my name is Kyla Barksdale and I am fundraising for my family. On February 27th, 2023 my step mom, Shonda Barksdale, gave birth to our newest family addition 2 months early. She developed an acute sickness called the HELLP syndrome (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes and Low Platelets) which is a life-threatening pregnancy complication. This caused her organs to fail and a lack of oxygen for her to survive. She had to transfer from TMH to Shands and is now placed on dialysis and ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). My dad has not left her side which means he can not work at the time. I have 3 other younger siblings that they provide for. They could really use any help that’s given during this hard time. Once Shonda can return home, she won’t be able to walk up the stairs at their current 

residence so if anyone has any insight of rentals or temporary stay for her recovery please reach out! We appreciate anything that is given as this may last for several months and will completely rearrange their lives! Please keep my family in your prayers.
