The Benitz family emergency medical bills fund

Thank you for taking the time to read about our friends Rachael and Joe. They’re part of our Elk River family. They live here, have kids attending schools here, participating in our local sports and honestly are two of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I’m in a networking group with Rachael and have grown to love and adore her and her whole family.

On this past Saturday, we almost lost Rachael.

Here is their story, in their words, “We were up in Hayward, WI helping her dad stain & Polyurethane one of the rentals kitchen cabinets. Saturday morning Rachael woke up at 5 AM in excruciating pain not knowing what was going on Joe called the ambulance and she was taken to Hayward Hospital. From there the seriousness of what had actually happened unfolded quite fast and Rachael was taken by medical helicopter to Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis.

After struggling with ulcers for years her stomach finally gave out leaving Rachael to fight for her life! She had to undergo emergency surgery.

She is now stable recovering at Abbott Northwestern but will have a very long road ahead.”

Rachael is self-employed (Simply Rachael) and Joe doesn’t go back to work for another month. They are going to not only have a long health recovery journey ahead, but huge medical expenses with being airlifted to the hospital, an ambulance ride, surgery and her hospital stay, not to mention having two beautiful children to feed, pay their mortgage and utilities.
