The Big Push: The Maternity Waiting Home Project

Tax deductible
CHILDBIRTH IN LIBERIA IS DIFFERENT

Recently, my daughter delivered her second child. Like many women in America, she did most of her laboring at home before going to the hospital where she received care that ensured her health and the health of her beautiful baby girl. Because such care is available, many women in the U.S. experience safe deliveries and joyous births.

But in Liberia, West Africa, many birth experiences are filled with lasting pain and loss. There are 52 infant deaths out of 1000 births compared to 5 out of 1000 in the U.S. Additionally, Liberia has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world.

MANY SURVIVE TO SUFFER

Surviving delivery isn’t the only risk for a woman in Liberia, however. Due to lack of medical care before and during delivery, many women are left with an injury call Obstetric Fistula.

Left untreated, this injury results in physical, social, emotional, and economic suffering for the rest of a woman’s life. Beyond persistent health issues, many women are ostracized from family and community, leaving them at risk on every level.

The fistula crisis is a social crisis in Liberia. The tendrils of the shame and pain affect a woman’s immediate family, her village, and surrounding community. It impacts her future, often negating her ability to provide for herself, and her family

And her ability to have more children.

THEIR DIGNITY MATTERS

The mission of Dignity: Liberia is to bring restoration and hope to women with Obstetric Fistula, and their communities, through healing, education, and prevention.

We are committed to education, access to care, the support of safe births, and fistula prevention. Now, we have an opportunity to build upon that foundation.

We need you to join us.

HELP BUILD A MATERNITY WAITING HOME AND FISTULA CLINIC

The land is purchased, and the construction of our maternity waiting home has begun. This will provide a safe place for women to stay during their final days of pregnancy.

Fistula does not just affect women. Our clinic will not only allow us safe deliveries but will be the only dedicated fistula clinic in Liberia! That’s exciting! But now, we need your help to get it operational. We are asking for your support.

100% OF YOUR GIFT SUPPORTS WOMEN IN LIBERIA

We are committed to Liberia. Each board member of Dignity: Liberia has lived or worked in Liberia while forming deep, personal relationships. We are a fully volunteer-led organization. No one on the board receives a salary or compensation from the organization.

We have made it this far thanks to the generous donations of supporters who believe Liberian mothers and women deserve a safe clinic and delivery. We need to have one big “FINAL PUSH” in birthing our maternity waiting home and fistula clinic.

PLEASE GIVE

Women in Liberia are waiting now for needed medical care. We are ready to help them. Will you join us?
