The Big Walk and Talk

On Tuesday 30th July myself, some of our perinatal network team and a volunteer will be walking 30 miles along the Flintshire section of the North Wales coastal path as part of a year of fundraising to celebrate 30 years of Home-Start Flintshire and to raise awareness for perinatal mental health.

The perinatal period can be a very lonely and difficult time for many families and at Home-Start Flintshire we want to encourage as many families as possible experiencing challenging times to reach out and ask for support. Perinatal mental health issues affect approximately 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men! Feelings of guilt, helplessness, fear, loss of identity and being completely overwhelmed combined with the responsibility of their new baby can be too much for some parents but they often suffer in silence for fear of being judged. Peer support during this time can have a positive impact, getting outside, walking and talking to normalise some of these feelings can make the world seem a little less lonely for new and expectant parents.

Let’s get people talking about perinatal mental health, let’s encourage people to say it’s ok to not be ok and be open to walking and talking, be open to reaching out for support and to being a little bit kinder to themselves!

All the money raised will go to supporting local families experiencing challenges during this vulnerable. Thank you for your support x
