The Blackburn’s Blight of Black mold

Hi my name is Danya and this is humbly really hard for me-as I think I’m at the lowest point I think I’ve ever been.

Our growing family of four bought our beautiful home 4 years ago in an effort to restore while living in and expand to invite many others to stay and live. 

We wanted our home to be a house of healing. We even have an expansive room with mirrors in the vision to provide moms or people a safe place to dance, worship, stretch and play!

Instead it immediately took a turn for being a house of making us sick.

One leak led to two, led to three and we were finding black mold at various locations. What my husband didn’t know at the time was not to disturb black mold yourself.

So he tried to take care of it himself and we have all been perpetually sick.

In 2021 we finally had the insurance company involved and they paid for remediation but when it was all said and done, our mold levels have tripled somehow and we are all sicker than ever.

When we walk in, we all immediately get a head ache, burning in the nose, etc

We’ve suffered digestive problems and light headed ness, neurological issues and so much more. It breaks my heart to hear my girls say “my belly hurts mommy” just because they ate some noodles or a piece of pizza.

We’ve been trying to fight it but honestly we need to just get out and either pay for more remediation company’s to do a full sweep of all 4500 sqft of it and or sell it.

But remediation and remodeling costs a ton and we’ve poured everything we have into trying to stop the mold.

Plus we need to pay to find a place to stay asap. We’re looking into renting an apartment simultaneously or buying an rv so we can live in it on our property while we deal with the road ahead.

Whats happened lately is that I’ve worked as a massage therapist for 12 years but suddenly, while trying to get a routine lidocaine injection had a total body shut down; most likely from mold toxicity levels. Couldn’t walk, eat, sleep, drink or talk very well.

This is where I’m at now. Trying to recover from and detox from all the poisons in my body, but can’t work or afford it.

Break down of expenses looks like this

7k exploratory remediation of bathroom where wet subfloor was found

16k to rebuild bathroom

20k cleaning and remediation of the house

9-20k for rv to live in while remediating

2k hosp bills

16k for remediation and coverage of basement

So at the very least we need 81k while this is all happening loosely but I rounded up to 100 because it always seems to shake out to more.
