30 miles Barefoot for the Boy at the Beach

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Megan (11) and I am going to walk 30 miles barefoot from Weymouth to Lyme Regis to help a friend in South Africa. I met him at the beach when we were on holiday. He lives with his mum and two brothers. The whole family is currently living in a caravan in someone's back garden and has to ask when they want to go to the bathroom in the house. That must be really stressful and uncomfortable. My friend had to go to school with trainers because there wasn't enough money to buy school shoes or stationery. He got told off and teased about it. I've never had any problems with not having shoes or enough writing supplies. In South Africa, you have to pay for everything and there is little help for people who are struggling. He has much fewer opportunities than I will ever have and I hope that I can help the boy that I met at the beach.

I am Megan's mum (Charmaine) and supporting her in this fundraiser. We met Liam who is Megan's age at the beach and got to know each other in the week that we spent together. He is a charming, joyful boy with a caring and loving heart. When the day came to say goodbye my heart was torn apart. I could make a commitment to this child or I could walk away, fly back to the UK and forget that we ever met, but I could not. We've stayed in touch and also made contact with his mum. Learning more about the hard and harrowing situations that they have had to face as a family. Liams mum was made redundand during the pandemic and it has been a struggle for her to make ends meet. I am full of admiration for her dedication and inner strength to keep going against all odds and wanting the best for her children even in very difficult circumstances. I want to make a lasting difference in Liam's life and also support his home life through this fundraiser.

The funds raised will be used to:
  • Replace furniture and a fridge that they have had to sell to put food on the table.
  • Buy new tires for their car which are not roadworthy or safe to drive.
  • Pay for school fees
  • It will be a dream come true if we can raise enough money to buy them a house.
  • If you can commit to helping them monthly that will be amazing. Please get in touch.
