The Brecon to Beacon Walk

Hi, My name is Daniel Walton and as Chair of Malvern Hills District Council on January 24th I will be setting off from Brecon to walk all the way to Worcestershire Beacon at the top of Malvern Hills. This 56 mile walk - I'll endeavour to do in 24 hours - leaving Brecon at 10am on the Friday and aiming to hit the Beacon by the same time the following morning.

The walk will take me to Haye on Wye, onto Hereford, through the night to Ledbury and onto Malvern in the morning.

The purpose of the walk is to raise funds and awareness for the great work done by Bonterre CIC.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic Bonterre have seen a significant increase in the numbers of both children and adults needing their support. Their current facilities – a collection of sheds and containers – are no longer enough. They urgently need a new central building to continue serving our growing community.

Build a proper kitchen & dining space for our students to eat together, creating a sense of belonging & family

Provide a warm dry space for everyone, all year round

Create a welcoming space for public events and activities, connecting our community with nature

Bonterre:

Our core aim is to provide alternative education support for children and young people who are not thriving in a mainstream school setting and finding it difficult to access education due to a wide range of emotional, social and learning needs.

We support students with Special Education Needs and Disabilities, such as ADHD or autistic spectrum conditions, those with poor mental health, experiences of abuse or trauma in their lives or other circumstances that limit their progress and aspirations.

We use the land, animals and the natural environment to benefit young people’s emotional wellbeing as well as their physical health. We help them to re-engage in mainstream education or transition to other specialist settings. Our trained staff and services are tailored to meet the needs of young people and help them to move forwards.
