I would like to take a step forward and help one of our local establishments through the hardest months of this pandemic, and humbly ask you to join me and my friends in this endeavor. The Breezeway Pub in Manchester, N.H., a locally owned gay/alternative bar that welcomes everyone and hosts numerous events for various diverse communities, is one of the last gay bars left in Manchester.
Steven Stevens, the owner of the Breezeway, has welcomed and supported the LGBTQ community for the last 16 years. During that time, the Breezeway has organized numerous fund-raisers for groups as diverse as the Greater Manchester AIDS Project, the NH YWCA, Emily’s Place, and Australia Wildfire relief. They have hosted countless amazing drag shows and competitions, as well as numerous alternative social groups, including gay outdoors and goth organizations.
During the past 16 years, Steven has provided a safe place for LGBTQ and other marginalized communities to hang out, grow, make new friends, enjoy local entertainment, learn about gay culture and, basically, just be themselves.
We have a responsibility to younger members of the gay/alternative communities to have a safe place to gather. Years ago, we had The Front Runner, The 313, The Two Door, and The Element Lounge. Sadly, our options are now very few.
What are future generations going to have if we don’t take the opportunity to support what little we have now? Where will they be able to watch awesome shows, learn about drag culture, learn about gay culture, and, frankly, be themselves.
So, please join me in helping this great local establishment for 2021 by donating and throwing support behind Steven. For the sake of our community and future generations to come. All donations will go to business expenses such as rent, keeping the lights in, staff and other items. Please also take into consideration the fees associated with GoFundMe.
