Brian Carl Focht, age 51, of Westerville, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, unexpectedly. Dr. Focht was a kind and compassionate human, and will be missed by many. Dr. Focht was heavily involved in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and in particular, the Cancer Special Interest Group. The ACSM Cancer Special Interest group has created the Dr. Brian C. Focht Memorial fund, to support Dr. Focht's relentless desire to support the next generation of scientists. Dr. Brian Focht was a Professor of Kinesiology and Director of the Exercise and Behavioral Medicine Lab at The Ohio State University. His research was focused on the role of exercise in enhancing health and wellbeing, preventing chronic disease, and recovering from cancer. The Brian C. Focht Memorial Fund was established to celebrate and perpetuate Dr. Focht's immense dedication to student mentorship and engagement within the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) community.
Although Dr. Focht's passed away in 2024, his spirit and impact remain with us today; his character, integrity, and commitment to rigorous science left an indelible mark on all who knew him. This scholarship serves as a testament to those values, aiming to inspire students to embody his spirit of mentorship and dedication to excellence in exercise and behavioral medicine.
